The defending champion Golden State Warriors will face the Washington Wizards in Tokyo on Sept. 30 for the NBA Japan Games 2022, kicking off the 2022 NBA preseason. It will be the Warriors’ first appearance outside of North America since playing the Timberwolves in Tokyo in 2022/23.
Each NBA team plays four to six preseason games before the regular season begins on Oct. 14.
How should you watch the NBA preseason?
The NBA Japan games will be broadcast live in Japan on NBA Rakuten, the NBA Rakuten YouTube channel, and Rakuten TV, as well as on NBA TV and NBC Sports Washington in the United States.
For the rest of the preseason games, the best option to watch is through DirecTV Stream, which offers a limited free trial and is the only streaming service that covers the YES Network. The games will also be available on FuboTV, NBA TV, and TNT.

NBA fans have been longing for some basketball action, and now that the preseason has begun, they are getting some. Even if the league’s superstars aren’t always there, there are still matchups that guarantee a lot of excitement.
Brooklyn Nets vs. Philadelphia 76ers
Ben Simmons has been out of action for an inexcusable period of time, but if he makes his long-awaited Nets debut against his former team, the wait might be worth it. This, combined with the offseason turmoil in Brooklyn, will make this a must-see on October 3.
Golden State Warriors vs. Los Angeles Lakers
A meeting between these two star California teams always provides good basketball entertainment, and given their drastically different results from last season, the Lakers will be especially eager to prove that their team can rebound from a very disappointing year and take on the defending champions.
Los Angeles Lakers vs. Minnesota Timberwolves
Another game to keep an eye on involves the Lakers, this time versus the Timberwolves. Both teams have new players, and it will be intriguing to see how they interact with their new colleagues, Patrick Beverley for Los Angeles and Rudy Gobert for Minnesota.
Miami Heat vs. New Orleans Pelicans
Both the Pelicans and the Heat are eager to build on their successful seasons last year. Miami was the top seed in the Eastern Conference coming into the playoffs, while New Orleans fought hard against the Phoenix Suns.
