At WWE Extreme Rules, the ladies are carrying most of the load. On Saturday’s pay-per-view, there will be two championship fights, both for women’s championships. In what might be the main event, Ronda Rousey competes in an Extreme Rules battle for Liv Morgan’s SmackDown Women’s Championship. Meanwhile, Bianca Belair is defending her Raw Women’s Championship against Bayley in a Ladder Match.

Extreme Rules lacks star power (the absence of Roman Reigns and the entire Bloodline is noticeable), but it appears to be a quality event. Edge and Finn Balor should be fantastic, as should Seth Rollins and Matt Riddle’s Fight Pit date. Sheamus and Gunther had a classic at Clash at the Castle, so the six-man street fight between them and their respective groups should be entertaining as well.

The return of Bray Wyatt may be what most fans are looking forward to on Extreme Rules. Although it hasn’t been publicized, WWE has been teasing The Fiend’s return at Extreme Rules. It may be nothing, a swerve, or something significant. On Saturday, we’ll find out.

Morgan won a pinfall victory against Rousey at SummerSlam despite appearing to tap out while engaged in an armbar. The heated aftermath of the contentious conclusion resulted in Rousey’s ban, but she’s back and vying for the title once more.

This time, the women will compete in an Extreme Rules bout, which will add a new layer to their growing rivalry.

Also on the night is a Fight Pit match between Matt Riddle and Seth “Freakin” Rollins, with former UFC star Daniel Cormier serving as the special guest referee. In addition, Drew McIntyre faces Karrion Kross in a strap match, Bianca Belair defends her Raw Women’s title against Bayley in a ladder match, Finn Balor responds to Edge’s challenge in a “I Quit” match, and The Brawling Brutes (Sheamus, Ridge Holland, and Butch) face Imperium (GUNTHER, Ludwig Kaiser, and Giovanni Vinci) in a six-man team match.

WWE Extreme Rules 2022 Preview:

In professional wrestling, a lot may happen in a year.

WWE produced an Extreme Rules pay-per-view in 2021 that failed to live up to its moniker. The great bulk of the card was contested under normal rules on a night that should have been full of intense brawls. There was only one match with a stringent requirement. It’s a spectacle that exemplifies the problems WWE experienced in the final years of Vince McMahon’s reign. While the in-ring product was outstanding, the wrestlers were frequently let down by uninspired and shoddy booking.

Now, under a new administration led by Paul “Triple H” Levesque, the difference between Extreme Rules 2021 and Extreme Rules ’22 is night and day. WWE will be in Philadelphia this Saturday for a PPV with a different extreme stipulation in each match. None of these requirements seem out of place or unnecessary. Levesque has crafted fiery feuds that are all deserving of the restrictions imposed.

Accepting the “extreme” in Extreme Rules has helped elevate what could have been a throwaway PPV sandwiched between larger events. The only thing missing from Saturday’s lineup is a proper main event. With the absence of WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns, it’s unclear what will be the main event at Extreme Rules. There are two women’s championship matches on the schedule that could result in title changes. Ronda Rousey will defend her SmackDown Women’s Championship against Liv Morgan in an extreme rules bout. Bianca Belair and Bayley will compete for the Raw women’s championship in a ladder match.

Matt Riddle vs. Seth Rollins in a Fight Pit match on Saturday will finish the most personal feud in WWE right now. The Fight Pit, which was previously used in NXT, is an MMA-inspired cage bout that can only be won by knockout or submission. UFC Hall of Famer Daniel Cormier will serve as the special guest referee for Riddle vs. Rollins at Extreme Rules.

Some of the excitement for Extreme Rules focuses around whether or not this is the location where WWE’s “White Rabbit” would be revealed. In recent weeks, mysterious QR codes have shown on WWE television, linked to cryptic teasers. The most recent one hinted that the White Rabbit will make his debut on Extreme Rules. It appears like the angle is heading to the return of Bray Wyatt.

WWE Extreme Rules 2022 Predictions:

Liv Morgan vs. Ronda Rousey for the SmackDown women’s championship in an extreme rules match

Winning or losing isn’t the most essential thing for Morgan in this situation. A brave loss to Rousey would mean far more to Morgan’s reputation in the long run than another fluke victory. Morgan gained some credibility after defeating Shayna Baszler at Clash at the Castle, and now WWE must prove that she belongs in the same ring as Rousey. Morgan should be able to do so with the ability to employ weapons in this extreme rules battle.

Whether it happens at Extreme Rules or later, Rousey regaining the SmackDown women’s belt appears to be a certain conclusion. She should not have lost three consecutive bouts to Morgan.

Prediction: Ronda Rousey will triumph

Bianca Belair vs. Bayley in a ladder match for the Raw women’s championship

This is one of the most difficult matchups to call at Extreme Rules. Bayley overcoming Belair and giving more gold to Damage CTRL is a foregone conclusion, but it isn’t time to terminate Belair’s rule.

The contest will very certainly have a lot of outside influence. Alexa Bliss and Asuka will join forces to oppose Bayley’s Damage CTRL teammates Dakota Kai and Iyo Sky. If Becky Lynch is ready to return from her separated shoulder sustained at SummerSlam, she might be the one who prevents Bayley from becoming champion.

Bianca Belair will be retained

Matt Riddle vs. Seth Rollins in Fight Pit match

After all of Rollins’ personal insults, it’s time for Riddle to exact his vengeance. Their plot has included Rollins mocking Riddle about his real-life family problems. Rollins has brought up Riddle’s divorce and claims that Riddle no longer sees his children. The Fight Pit is the ideal venue for Riddle, a former MMA fighter, to put an end to this dispute. If Riddle and Rollins’ rivalry goes over into the Fight Pit, this has the makings of a classic.

It would be fascinating to see whether Daniel Cormier’s appearance as a special guest referee for Riddle vs. Rollins leads to him having more work with WWE in the future. He enjoys pro wrestling and would succeed in an on-screen job with WWE, even if he never competes in the ring.

Matt Riddle is the favorite to win.

Drew McIntyre vs. Karrion Kross in a strap match

The only bout at Extreme Rules that will not benefit from the stipulation is McIntyre vs. Kross. Strap matches, because the two wrestlers are strapped together, limit what the competitors can do rather than offering them more possibilities to work with. Hopefully, McIntyre and Kross will be able to overcome this and still discover innovative ways to use the strap. Kross must perform well in his first PPV match since rejoining WWE.

McIntyre’s loss against Roman Reigns at Clash at the Castle will be difficult to overcome. As much as there should be no shame in losing against the industry’s most dominant wrestler, there will never be a finer opportunity for WWE to elevate McIntyre to the top spot. McIntyre needs to get over that loss and start winning quickly, but it won’t happen at Extreme Rules. Kross can’t afford a PPV defeat so soon after returning, given how poorly his first stint on the main roster went.

Karrion Kross is the favorite to win

Edge vs. Finn Bálor “I Quit” Match:

The “I Quit” stipulation for this bout could provide The Judgment Day with the high-profile victory they’ve been looking for. While having babyfaces quit is usually a poor idea, Edge quitting to protect his family will be understood. The Judgment Day can endanger Edge’s wife, Beth Phoenix, by using their numerical superiority. Edge will have no choice but to give up and save Phoenix if she is in danger.

Finn Bálor will win

Imperium (Gunther, Ludwig Kaiser, and Giovanni Vinci) vs. The Brawling Brutes in a traditional Donnybrook bout (Sheamus, Ridge Holland and Butch)

Following what was possibly WWE’s best bout of the year at Clash at the Castle, Gunther and Sheamus are sure to put on another show here. This Irish-themed street brawl between their clans will be fast-paced and brutal.

Gunther and Sheamus will square off in an intercontinental title rematch on SmackDown the night before Extreme Rules. Assuming Gunther stays, Sheamus will be able to recapture some momentum with this six-man tag. To win, he should pin either Kaiser or Vinci.
