Following the EUBC Junior European Boxing Championships, the EUBC European Women’s Boxing Championships will be held in Budva, Montenegro. Four of the previous edition’s titleholders will return to defend their thrones at the upcoming event in Budva.
The IBA Women’s World Boxing Championships were held in Istanbul, Turkey, in May, and practically all of the European champions will be present for the opening of the Budva event. Turkish five-star Ayse Cagirir, Busenaz Cakiroglu, Hatice Akbas, Busenaz Surmeneli, Sennur Demir, Amy Broadhurst, Lisa O’Rourke, and Gabriele Stonkute, as well as Irish couple Amy Broadhurst, Lisa O’Rourke, and Lithuania’s Gabriele Stonkute, won European gold in Istanbul.
Kellie Harrington, Ireland’s top female boxer, returns from injury at the EUBC European Women’s Boxing Championships. Irma Testa of Italy won silver in the IBA Women’s World Boxing Championships in Turkey and will compete for her second European crown in Budva.
In total, 164 boxers from 31 countries enrolled to compete in the EUBC European Women’s Boxing Championships, excluding reserves. The number of registered boxers is bigger than in recent years, with the bantamweight (54kg), featherweight (57kg), and lightweight (60kg) classifications expected to be the most congested in Budva.
Armenia, Azerbaijan, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, England, Finland, France, Georgia, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Kosovo, Lithuania, Moldova, Montenegro, Netherlands, Poland, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey, Ukraine, and Wales will send their best girls.
The inaugural championship for women’s elite boxers was held in France in 2001, and it was followed by championships in Pecs, Riccione, Tonsberg, Warsaw, Vejle, Nikolayev, Rotterdam, Bucharest, Sofia twice, and Alcobendas.
In August 2019, the EUBC European Women’s Boxing Championships were held in Alcobendas, Spain. Armenia, Belarus, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, England, Finland, France, Georgia, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Malta, Moldova, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Romania, Russia, Scotland, Serbia, Slovenia, host Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey, Ukraine, and Wales were among the 136 elite female boxers who competed.
