Alberto Puello vs Rolando Romero Preview

Rolando “Rolly” Romero and Ismael Barroso will square off for the unclaimed WBA super lightweight championship on Saturday night at The Chelsea, located within The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas.
Romero, who has a record of 14-1 with 12 knockouts, is in an advantageous position to become a world champion in a different weight class. This is despite the fact that he was unsuccessful in his most recent fight, in which he was knocked out by Gervonta Davis in May of last year during a lightweight contest.
The boisterous Romero was scheduled to face the unbeaten WBA champion Alberto Puello, but Puello was forced to withdraw from the match and give up the championship after failing a drug test. The bout between Romero and Puello was initially scheduled to take place.
Ismael Barroso, a hard-hitting boxer with a record of 24-3-2 and 22 victories by knockout, has taken Puello’s spot in the ring. Barroso has a better record than Puello. After suffering losses in his previous two bouts to Batry Akhmedov and Isa Chaniev, Barroso has won his last four in a row. The Venezuelan, who is 40 years old, finds himself in a position where he has a chance to ultimately win a world championship for the first time.
Even the most devoted boxing fan might be excused for not having complete knowledge of the circumstances that led to Rolando Romero and Ismael Barroso’s bout on Saturday having the WBA super lightweight championship at stake. To begin, the Showtime Boxing main event was never planned to include Barroso in the first place, despite the fact that he had been patiently waiting for a championship fight for more than three years.
In the initial version of the main event, Romero was supposed to compete against champion Alberto Puello. Due to Romero’s lack of significant experience at 140 pounds and the fact that he had just suffered a severe knockout defeat to Gervonta “Tank” Davis in his most recent fight, the matchmaking for this bout was already a little bit questionable. However, Puello was disqualified from the fight after failing a drug test administered by VADA. As a result, the WBA decided to promote Puello to the position of “champion in recess” because the fight between Romero and Barroso, who stepped in on short notice, would now be for the world title.
