The Genesis Invitational Preview

The Genesis Invitational is one of the PGA Tour’s new “designated events,” like last week’s WM Phoenix Open. This week, the top PGA Tour pros will compete for a $20 million prize pool on a historic golf course.

Tiger Woods long-awaited return should get you pumped for this week’s event. Last week, tournament host Woods revealed he would play in the tournament. Woods hasn’t participated since July’s Open Championship.

After so long away, Tiger’s performance is hard to predict, but the world’s finest players, including new World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler, Jon Rahm, Rory McIlroy, Justin Thomas, Jordan Spieth, and others, will perform well.

PGA Tour’s Genesis Invitational was previously the Los Angeles Open. This tournament began in 1926 at several California golf clubs. It settled at the Riviera Country Club in Pacific Palisades, Los Angeles, in 1973.

Tiger Woods presents the Genesis Invitational at Riviera Country Club, where he debuted as a 16-year-old amateur. Proceeds benefit his charity, the TGR Foundation.

The Genesis Invitational, one of only five “invitational” PGA Tour tournaments, includes a 120-player field (versus to 156 for ordinary PGA Tour events) with a $20 million reward to attract the best.

In 2022, Joaquin Niemann won by two shots over Collin Morikawa and Cameron Young with a 19-under score, the best since Lanny Wadkins’ 1985 tournament record of 20-under.
