After a turbulent Japanese Grand Prix that was delayed due to heavy rain, Formula One returns from its week-long holiday in Austin, Texas, for the 2022 United States Grand Prix.
After winning his second consecutive F1 title in Japan a fortnight ago, Max Verstappen will come to Austin as the 2022 champion.
The constructors’ title, though, is still up for grabs, with Red Bull presently leading Ferrari by 165 points.
Red Bull Racing is certain to win its first constructors’ championship since 2013 this weekend in Austin after being undefeated in the second half of the season. Its most recent setback came before the summer break in Austria.
Lewis Hamilton is the Circuit of the Americas’ most successful driver, with five victories, four of which came in successive years in the middle of the last decade. The Mercedes driver will be hopeful that his good record would end his and his team’s current win drought in F1, as they look to recover from a difficult start to F1’s new ground-effect era.
With it comes a new world champion: Red Bull’s Max Verstappen won his 12th race of the season at Suzuka, giving him back-to-back drivers’ championship championships. The Dutchman handled the circumstances, finishing 25 seconds ahead of the pack, which was enough to secure his second championship victory.
Expect him to keep his foot on the gas, as he continues to chase the record for the most wins in an F1 season. The record is 13 wins, shared by Michael Schumacher and Sebastian Vettel, although Verstappen could break it by winning two of the final four races in 2022.
This is especially true as the race for second place in the standings heats up. Sergio Perez leads Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc by one point heading into this race, as Red Bull looks to make it a one-two in the drivers’ standings this season.
