UFC 280 Oliveira vs Makhachev Preview
The newest UFC pay-per-view event and the eventual return to Fight Island are rapidly approaching. On October 22, the promotion will return to Abu Dhabi with a fight card that will likely have fans pumped for the late afternoon festivities. Former lightweight champion Charles Oliveira faces off against up-and-comer Islam Makhachev in the main event of the evening. With 11 consecutive victories extending all the way back to 2018, Oliviera is on a tear. Even though he was disqualified from his May bout with Justin Gaethje due to failing to make weight, he never lost the belt in the cage.
The co-main event is also a title bout, and it’s just as exciting as the main event. Aljamain Sterling, the current bantamweight champion, will defend his crown against TJ Dillashaw, a previous champion. This is Sterling’s first championship defence since his two-fight series with Petr Yan and his second overall. After a two-year USADA penalty that lost him the title and knee surgery in 2021, TJ Dillashaw is finally back.
In addition to the main event and co-main event, this card features some of the most compelling matchups of the year for this promoter. Yan also returns, facing off against Sean O’Malley, a fan favourite. Also on the main program, Matuez Gamrot takes against Beneil Dariush, two more lightweight contenders. Also, Manon Fiorot and Katlyn Chookagian fight for a spot in the women’s flyweight division. In addition, the main event of the preliminary card is a fight between undefeated welterweight contenders Belal Muhammad and Sean Brady. They are both hoping to get a chance at the title in the near future.
The confirmed UFC 280 fight card can be found below. As the remainder of the undercard is confirmed, this page will be updated to reflect the changes.
Main event action, including Petr Yan vs Sean O’Malley, will take place in Abu Dhabi.
The match between Oliveira and Makhachev should be exciting.
Do Bronx is coming off a dominant performance over Justin Gaethje at UFC 274.
However, the UFC Lightweight Championship was taken away from him since he failed to make weight for that championship bout. He will now attempt to reassume his throne.
Makhachev has a record of 22 wins and 1 loss, and he recently scored a knockout victory over Bobby Green.
