Massive WBA WBO title fight Vasiliy Lomachenko vs. Jamaine Ortiz head-to-head will happen this weekend. Ukrainian Vasiliy Lomachenko returns to the ring for some unfinished business after battling for his country against Russian aggression. On October 29, the former WBA, WBO, and The Ring lightweight champion will meet Jamaine Ortiz.

Vasiliy Lomachenko (16-2, 11 KO), a former three-division champion and two-time Olympic gold medalist, will make his long-awaited comeback to the boxing arena on Saturday. Loma will meet up-and-coming lightweight contender Jamaine Ortiz (16-0-1, 8 KO) in the headline bout on ESPN at Madison Square Garden.

Ortiz is coming off the biggest win of his career, a victory against former champion Jamel Herring in May. Lomachenko’s last bout hasn’t been the longest in his career since his last bout. Still, it’s noteworthy because the Ukrainian fighter stayed in his native country to help battle the Russian invasion.

In the meanwhile, he passed up an opportunity to compete for the undisputed lightweight title, but he may receive another shot depending on the outcome of his fight with Ortiz.
Lomachenko returns to the Hulu Theater at Madison Square Garden. He will be competing in New York for the sixth time.

Lomachenko fought his way back to the top after losing lightweight gold to Teofimo Lopez in 2020. Before fighting for Ukraine, he defeated Masayoshi Nakatani and Richard Commey. Lomachenko’s mission remains unchanged.

“I love my sport, and I’m thrilled to be back,” Lomacehnko said in a statement. “My goal is to win the uncontested lightweight title, but I will not be taken lightly by Jamaine Ortiz.” Madison Square Garden and MSG’s Hulu Theater have been significant venues for me throughout my career, and I’m looking forward to generating more amazing memories on October 29. I’d like to dedicate this fight to all Ukrainians. Every time I get into the ring, I proudly display the flag.”

Ortiz made his professional debut in 2016. Ortiz defeated Mahir Albright and Jamel Herring in 2022 after drawing with Joseph Adorno. Herring, a former super-featherweight champion, announced his retirement following the defeat.

Vasiliy Lomachenko vs. Jamaine Ortiz Preview:

Vasyl Lomachenko and Jermaine Ortiz held their final press conference today before of their main event fight on ESPN this Saturday night at Madison Square Garden in New York.

Ortiz (5’8′′, 16-0-1, 8 KOs) towered over the shorter Lomachenko (5’7′′), seeming much higher than their official heights. Lomachenko will have to figure out how to deal with Ortiz’s height and reach because it will be difficult.

Ortiz is arguably a better fighter than anyone Lomachenko has faced since his defeat to Teofimo Lopez, and he may even be a better fighter than him. Ortiz looked quite impressive in his last bout, defeating the 5’10” former WBO super featherweight champion Jamel Herring in May.

“I can’t wait to return to Madison Square Garden on Saturday night because it’s a special place for me,” Vasyl Lomachenko stated during today’s press conference for his Saturday night bout against Jermaine Ortiz.

“Madison Square Garden has a lot of fights, so it’s a lucky spot for me.” I’d like to draw some sporting attention to our country, and it’ll be Saturday morning in the United States and Sunday morning in Ukraine. It will be a nice feeling for Ukrainians.

“Look, it’s a little different, sparring session and competition because our condition is not near to a high level and 100%,” Lomachenko remarked when asked what it was like sparring with Jermaine Ortiz previously.

“I’m focused on my career and on my boxing.” When asked how much he wants to win all of the titles at 135, Lomachenko replied, “It’s my dream; it’s my aim.” “I don’t want to discuss the future.” “All I want to do is fight on Saturday night, and then we can talk about the future.”

“It’s everything to me.” “This is something I materialized into my life, eventually fighting Lomachenko, and the moment has come,” Jermaine Ortiz said.

“I believe Lomachenko will bring out the best in Jermaine Ortiz.” Everyone in the gym and where I came from knows who I am, and it’s going to be ‘The Technician,’ the genuine technician, come Saturday night.

“Of course, there’s someone else out there attempting to take your head off, hurt you, and take away your family.” When you step into the ring, you obviously have a different mindset.

It’s like a dog in a lion’s lair. No, everything was, usual, business as usual. “It was simply another day in the office for any other fight,” Ortiz remarked when asked if the training camp for this fight was different from others.

“Here at Madison Square Garden’s machine of boxing, it’s all I’ve asked for, and God has delivered.” I learned a lot about myself and how to make improvements.

“Returning to the basics and fundamentals and mastering those talents.” I guarantee you’ll discover the greatest Jermaine Ortiz on Saturday night.”
