The Australian Open 2023, the year’s first Grand Slam, will be held from January 16 to 29 at Melbourne Park in Melbourne, Australia. The Australian Open is in its 111th year.

The Australian Open 2023 will be the fourth edition of the tournament to feature GreenSet, a one-of-a-kind hardcourt surface from GreenSet Worldwide.

The men’s singles final will take place on Sunday, January 29, with the women’s singles final taking place the night before.

Qualifying for the Australian Open main event will begin on Monday, January 9 and conclude on Thursday, January 12.

Australian Open 2023 History:

The Australian Open is the largest annual athletic event in the Southern Hemisphere, held annually in Melbourne, Australia, during the last two weeks of January. The Australian Open will be held for the 111th time, the 55th in the Open Era, and the first Grand Slam of the year.

The Australian Open, which precedes the French Open, Wimbledon, and the US Open in 2020, has the greatest attendance at a Grand Slam event, with men’s and women’s singles, men’s, women’s, and mixed doubles, and junior championships, as well as wheelchair, legends, and exhibition events.

The tournament, originally known as the Australasian Championship, was founded in 1905 and is held on the hardcourts in Melbourne Park in Melbourne, Australia. Due to World War I and II, the event was not held from 1916 to 1918 and 1941 to 1945, respectively.

In 1988, the relocation to Melbourne Park and from grasscourt to green hardcourt produced spectacular success, with attendance increasing by 90% almost immediately. The current blue hardcourt surface was installed in 2007.

The Australian Open has always been contested in January, however, in 1977, the event was held twice due to a change in the Australian Open draw and the subsequent competition in December.

Rod Laver, an 11-time Grand Slam champion and widely recognized as one of the greatest players of all time, is commemorated by the Center Court and the main stadium at Melbourne Park.
