The Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya known as World RX of Catalunya 1, best renowned for hosting Formula One and MotoGP, joined the FIA World Rallycross Championship calendar in the series’ second season in 2015 and has since been a fixture on the calendar. Spectators in the stadium area of the famed arena always have an excellent view of the action.
The 8th World Championship will be held on the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya on October 29 and 30, with qualifying finals on both Saturday and Sunday.
The World RX returns to the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya on the last weekend of October to revolutionize the world of RallyCross by hosting the FIA World Championship’s first 100% electric race.
Power and acceleration will once again dominate the Circuit in one of the most entertaining races of the season. The categories to be held at Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya will be RXE, RX2E, and carcross E in the most exciting style of Rally competition: the doubleheader, with World Championship qualifying finals on both Saturday and Sunday.

The e-Mobility Experience, an immersive fair where visitors will be able to explore and try out all the newest advancements in electric vehicles: cars, motorbikes, e-bikes, scooters, and more, will be added as a novelty to the competition, and will be free with your World RX de Catalunya ticket.
The FIA World Rallycross Championship will create history this weekend (October 29-30) with the first-ever all-electric event in the dual-surface discipline.
The Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya will host a doubleheader World RX racing meeting as well as the last round of the FIA RX2e Rallycross Championship feeder series in 2022, as well as a groundbreaking e-Mobility Experience – the largest e-mobility fair in southern Europe.
Johan Kristoffersson, who leads his nearest challenger by 41 points, is looking to win his fifth drivers’ title this weekend.
In 2022, Kristoffersson Motorsport’s star driver has won six of seven races in his Volkswagen RX1e. Of course, victory is not inevitable, as he came in second place there 15 months ago after a series of exciting skirmishes with the Hansen brothers.
Kevin and Timmy Hansen could, and perhaps should, have at least one win each this year. They’ll be hoping for better fortune to allow them to do what they did in Catalunya last year: create an outstanding team effort to keep Kristoffersson at bay.
Both drivers are locked in a three-way battle for second place in the overall standings with Ole Christian Veiby and Niclas Grönholm, with only three points separating the quartet.
Gustav Bergström and Klara Andersson, two young rookies, have also shown a lot of promise this year. Last time out at Spa-Francorchamps, the Volkswagen Dealerteam BAUHAUS teenager finished third in both races, while his Construction Equipment Dealer Team counterpart became the first female driver to finish on the podium in the international rallycross’ top flight category after an impressive performance in Portugal.
René Münnich’s pace has steadily improved race each race, and he’ll be hoping for his best finish of the season in his SEAT Ibiza RX1e.

Viktor Vranckx leads the RX2e driver standings, and the Belgian teenager is only a few points away from being declared the 2022 champion.
Patrick O’Donovan, his RX2e competitor, enters Spain on excellent form, having won both of the previous two rounds. He now sits fourth in the rankings, trailing Swedish duo Isak Sjökvist and Nils Andersson.
Former Formula One driver’s Nick Heidfeld and Carlos Checa made their rallycross debuts in RX2e.
The asphalt sections are broad, smooth, and fast, and are located right close to the iconic F1 paddock. The 1,125m rallycross track begins with a sweeping left-hand Turn One (Turn Ten of the F1 circuit), followed by an upward blast on the racetrack to the first unsealed stretch, which consists of a long right-hander and a bend to the left.
The introduction to the Joker lap is marked by a rapid right-left-left turn, which comprises the F1 circuit’s penultimate curve, followed by a lengthy, sweeping left-hand turn integrating the back straight. The second of the two unsealed portions has a complicated entry before racing through a quick downhill right bend, followed by a tight left-handed curve to the finish line.
