Top Predictions for NFL Week 3
The Bengals (-4.5) go on the road and cover against the Jets, which is one of the model’s top Week 3 NFL choices. Last year, only six teams had fewer sacks than the Jets, and they have the same statistical sack ranking this year. Because New York is allowing opposing quarterbacks a passer rating of above 100 this season, a lack of pressure on Joe Burrow should let him pick through the Jets’ defense. Burrow is expected to eclipse 300 yards passing and toss multiple touchdowns passes, with Ja’Marr Chase receiving almost 100 yards.

The model predicts that no Jets player will have more than 60 receiving yards. In reality, New York is defeated by two touchdowns, with the Bengals (-4.5) covering roughly 60% of the time.
Another Week 3 NFL prediction from the model: the Seahawks (-2) cover the spread at home against the Falcons. Seattle failed to cover the spread in their Week 2 loss to San Francisco, ending Geno Smith’s incredible record against the spread. Smith had covered the ball in nine consecutive starts, the second-longest streak by a quarterback since 2000. The Steelers’ game against the Browns will be the first NFL Week 3 action of the 2022 season. The game is expected to be a grind-it-out fight between two division rivals with robust defenses and quarterback problems.
After Thursday night, there will be two more primetime games in Week 3. The game between the 49ers and Broncos on “Sunday Night Football” has the potential to be exciting. Because Trey Lance suffered a broken ankle, Jimmy Garoppolo will return to the starting lineup and try to right the ship.
On the other hand, Denver is off to an uninspiring 1-1 start. First-year head coach Nathaniel Hackett has been chastised for his in-game management abilities, and he will need to provide a strong performance in Week 3 to allay fears.
Another matchup in NFL Week 3 has a team starting its backup quarterback on “Monday Night Football.” Cooper Rush and the Cowboys are coming off a victory and will face the unexpected 2-0 Giants, who has looked impressive in Brian Daboll’s first season as head coach.
There will be plenty of other good games to watch in Week 3, but the best of the bunch will be the Packers vs. Buccaneers game on Fox at 4:25 p.m. ET. It will be a fight between Tom Brady and Aaron Rodgers, but Brady will be without his top two receiving weapons, Mike Evans (suspended) and Chris Godwin (injured) (hamstring).
