Nebraska vs Rutgers Preview: How to watch live, start time, predictions, odds, spread, and more

The game between Nebraska vs Rutgers on Friday in Piscataway, New Jersey, is hardly a marquee matchup, but it is intriguing because both teams have the ability to pick up a much-needed victory as they battle for bowl eligibility. The Cornhuskers and Scarlet Knights have had rough starts in 2022, but one of them will leave with a significant victory.

By the end of September, Nebraska had fired coach Scott Frost and was 1-3 after a thrashing at the hands of Oklahoma. The Huskers really needed a win, and they got one last weekend against the lowly Indiana Hoosiers. Nebraska’s offense and defense both played well, which could be a foundation for interim coach Mickey Joseph to build on.

Rutgers has lost its first two Big Ten games after going 3-0 in nonconference play. The most recent defeat was a 49-10 thrashing at the hands of the Ohio State Buckeyes in Columbus, and the Scarlet Knights have yet to score more than 22 points against an FBS opponent. That could be a problem against Nebraska, who has showed some offensive ferocity.

More details on how to watch this Big Ten cross-divisional game may be found below.

When Nebraska vs Rutgers:

On Friday, October 7 at 7 p.m., the Nebraska Cornhuskers will play the Rutgers Scarlet Knights in Week 6 of the 2022 NCAA College Football Season (ET). SHI Stadium in Piscataway, New Jersey, will host the game.

How to Watch Nebraska vs Rutgers:

The Nebraska Cornhuskers vs. Rutgers game in Week 6 of the 2022 NCAA College Football Season will be available to watch or live stream on fuboTV (7-day free trial) in the United States. If you don’t want to miss the game in the United States, another choice is FS1.

Three players to keep an eye on

Casey Thompson, Nebraska QB: Thompson provides the Cornhuskers with some dual-threat talent at quarterback, but his rushing numbers have been dragged down by sacks through the first five games. Nonetheless, Thompson has been effective in 2022 when given enough time. Thompson threw for 270 yards, two touchdowns, and an interception against Indiana, while also scoring on the ground. The Rutgers defense should provide greater resistance, but Thompson should contribute to the Huskers’ offense.

Tyreem Powell, Rutgers LB: Powell will be tasked with preventing Thompson from causing too much damage on Friday night. Powell leads Rutgers with three sacks on the season, and given Thompson’s lack of protection so far, he might add to that total against Nebraska. If the Huskers can’t keep him in check, they’ll be in for a rock fight.

Nebraska WR Trey Palmer: The LSU transfer is coming off a big game against Indiana. Palmer has eight catches for 157 yards and a touchdown last weekend. He now has the most receptions (36), receiving yards (480), and receiving touchdowns on the squad (2). Palmer has given the Cornhuskers hope, and Rutgers will have its hands full trying to keep him at bay.

Prediction for Nebraska vs Rutgers:

It’s a little scary to think about trusting either of these teams. I’m not sure if Rutgers’ offensive can keep up with Nebraska’s, but the Huskers allow 32.6 points a game. However, if the Scarlet Knights attack had exploded, it would have scored more than 16 points against Temple. Nebraska goes into Piscataway and takes care of business to win and cover the spread. Nebraska -3 is my prediction.
