Three players to keep an eye on
Casey Thompson, Nebraska QB: Thompson provides the Cornhuskers with some dual-threat talent at quarterback, but his rushing numbers have been dragged down by sacks through the first five games. Nonetheless, Thompson has been effective in 2022 when given enough time. Thompson threw for 270 yards, two touchdowns, and an interception against Indiana, while also scoring on the ground. The Rutgers defense should provide greater resistance, but Thompson should contribute to the Huskers’ offense.

Tyreem Powell, Rutgers LB: Powell will be tasked with preventing Thompson from causing too much damage on Friday night. Powell leads Rutgers with three sacks on the season, and given Thompson’s lack of protection so far, he might add to that total against Nebraska. If the Huskers can’t keep him in check, they’ll be in for a rock fight.
Nebraska WR Trey Palmer: The LSU transfer is coming off a big game against Indiana. Palmer has eight catches for 157 yards and a touchdown last weekend. He now has the most receptions (36), receiving yards (480), and receiving touchdowns on the squad (2). Palmer has given the Cornhuskers hope, and Rutgers will have its hands full trying to keep him at bay.

It’s a little scary to think about trusting either of these teams. I’m not sure if Rutgers’ offensive can keep up with Nebraska’s, but the Huskers allow 32.6 points a game. However, if the Scarlet Knights attack had exploded, it would have scored more than 16 points against Temple. Nebraska goes into Piscataway and takes care of business to win and cover the spread. Nebraska -3 is my prediction.
