Predictions for UFC Fight Night: Rodriguez vs. Lemos

The winner may find herself in the title picture right away in a division that will soon see some clarity at the top. Carla Esparza will defend her title against second-ranked opponent Zhang Weili at UFC 281 next weekend. Regardless of the outcome, the victor of Saturday’s main event might be the next in line for the championship.

Rodriguez’s only defeat came in a split decision to Esparza in July 2020. Esparza has already defeated top-ranked Rose Namajunas twice, and a rematch with Rodriguez (16-1-2) would be much anticipated by the crowd. If Weili wins, he’ll face either Rodriguez or Lemos (12-2-1) in a logical and interesting first-defense matchup.

Rodriguez and Lemos battling one other seemed almost inevitable given their identical career paths and fighting techniques, which include world-class striking and fearless demeanors.

Rodriguez has faced tougher competition and established herself as a legitimate contender after defeating grappling standout Mackenzie Dern in a five-round main event last October that was named Fight of the Night. In March, the Brazilian followed up with a decision victory over Yan Xiaonan.

Picks for UFC Fight Night Rodriguez vs. Lemos:

We’ll share one of Marley’s UFC Fight Night picks with you here: He is rooting for Shaylin Nuerdanbieke (-200) to win a featherweight battle against Darrick Minner (+175) on the preliminary card.

Nuerdanbieke (38-10) is a versatile talent who has demonstrated power and a devastating ground game as he has risen through the ranks. The Chinese fighter has 45 professional fights prior to being called up by the UFC and has won two straight since losing his debut with the organization.

Minner (26-13) is a three-year UFC veteran with a grappling background that has culminated in 22 submission victories. However, the Nebraska native hopes to end a two-fight losing streak.
