LFA 147: Melo vs Costa Fight Preview:

“We are very excited for the LFA to return to Iowa next month,” Soares said. “Junior Melo and Melquizael Costa are Brazil’s most interesting prospects this year.” They’ve headlined events for us in the last six months, and they’re both coming off massive knockout victories on consecutive nights in August. When they clash in the main event of LFA 147, there will be a lot on the line!”

Melo (12-5) is a rising Brazilian star hoping to cap off a perfect 2022 season. On only four days’ notice, the BJJ black belt made his LFA debut in March. LFA fan favourite Tommy Aaron had lost his opponent, so Melo jumped at the chance to make his long-awaited American debut.

The grappler stunned the home crowd when he knocked out the lethal striker in 97 seconds. The knockout altered his career. It first went viral online, earned him a “Knockout of the Night” bonus, and eventually landed him as the headliner for his first LFA event in August. “The Fortaleza Kid” took advantage of his second chance and defeated another local favourite, Canadian great Adam Assenza. He will attempt to make it three in a row at LFA 147.

Costa (18-5) is one of the most well-known prospects to have emerged from Brazil in recent years, and he was eager to make his LFA debut on short notice. Rodrigo Lido backed out of the main event of LFA 132 in May after being signed to compete in Dana White’s Contender Series. The man known as “Melk” seized the opportunity and made an immediate mark on the promotion and its followers.

Costa has also made an impact outside of the ring, serving as an advocate and role model for people suffering from vitiligo, a disorder that causes the skin to lose colour. Now, the Brazilian star is back, hoping to follow in the footsteps of his comrade Joanderson “Tubaro” Brito, who moved from the LFA to the UFC.

LFA 147 will also feature an explosive women’s flyweight matchup between two of the division’s most experienced attackers.

Peralta (5-3) is a bare-knuckle boxing champion who will make her professional debut in her home state of Iowa. She competed in the 30th season of the UFC’s hit reality show The Ultimate Fighter earlier this year, where she was coach Julianna Pea’s first overall pick.

The woman known as “Ians” now hopes further to establish her identity and formidable fighting reputation in MMA. This will occur at LFA 147, her first fight for the LFA since competing for the organization nearly six years ago at LFA 2. Peralta also has a notable victory over former LFA fighter and current UFC star Cheyanne Vlismas.

Pereira (0-0) will make her professional MMA debut for the LFA two years after her older brother Alex “Poatan” Pereira stunned the LFA with an incredible knockout. Alex is widely regarded as the most dangerous striker on the planet, having won the GLORY Kickboxing two-division championship.

He has a highlight reel for the ages, including two kickboxing victories over UFC middleweight champion Israel Adesanya. Aline is a GLORY Kickboxing star who looks to follow in her brother’s footsteps only six days after he fights Adesanya for the UFC middleweight title in the main event of UFC 281.
