Cris Cyborg will compete in boxing for the first time on Sunday at Fight Music Show 2 in Curitiba, Brazil, after dominating the world of mixed martial arts for years.
Cyborg, 37, has done a lot in her illustrious career. She is the only MMA fighter to achieve a “Grand Slam,” having won world titles in the UFC, Strikeforce, Invicta FC, and Bellator, where she currently holds the women’s featherweight belt. She is 26-2 overall and hasn’t lost since 2018.
Despite her huge achievements, Cyborg still has a strong drive to push herself, and boxing has been on her must-do list for quite some time.
“I have some butterflies in my stomach, but I prefer to feel this,” Justino told the Associated Press’ Greg Beachem. “I’ve had some fantastic bouts, but it’s wonderful for me to have new challenges.” I’m always looking for new ways to push myself. I don’t want to stop. So why not? Everyone has to do something unpleasant. You can’t just sit on the couch and wish for a dream. You must go for it.”

Silva, Cyborg’s opponent, is an unheralded fighter from So Paulo, Brazil. She has a record of 17-22 with only six knockouts and is on a nine-match losing skid. Silva is still inside her 60-day medical suspension after being knocked out by Jessica Camara on Aug. 13, according to MMAFighting.com’s Guilherme Cruz. Cruz points out that the Organizaço Brasileira de Boxe will not oversee or sanction the bout, thus it could be a glorified exhibition rather than a real match.
Silva appears to be a carefully chosen opponent for Cyborg, who, despite her lack of formal boxing expertise, is an outstanding striker who has won multiple MMA battles on the strength of her punches. Cyborg has also competed professionally in Muay Thai, where she has a 2-1 record with two stoppage victories.
Because of her popularity as a combat sports star, Cyborg has the ability to quickly advance to top-tier opponents if she wins on Sunday. Katie Taylor, the undefeated lightweight champion, would be a dream opponent. There have been negotiations of meeting in the ring, according to Cyborg.
“Katie Taylor, our teams have discussed this fight possibly happening in the future,” Cyborg told DAZN.com’s Steven Muehlhausen. “When people call my name, it is an honor for me. Katie Taylor, her background, and everything she’s done for women’s boxing have all earned my admiration.”
While a battle versus Taylor would be a major event, it is still on the horizon for the time being. Cyborg must first defeat Silva before determining whether she wants to focus completely on boxing or return to MMA. Cyborg should easily dispatch Silva and secure a TKO victory in the first few rounds of the bout on Sunday.
