GLORY 85 Preview:

GLORY returns to the ring on April 29th for what is sure to be another exciting night of fighting for the company. Endy Semeleer, the ever-impressive welterweight champion, will defend his title against longstanding top fighter Murthel Groenhart on the main program. This card will delight fans because it features not only a title fight but also a four-man heavyweight tournament. The victor of this tournament will most likely face current champion Antonio Plazibat in an interim title fight this summer, as well as a spot in December’s Heavyweight Grand Prix, which will have a $500,000 purse.

Endy Semeleer will make his first defense of the Welterweight belt he won at Glory 82 in the evening’s main event. Semeleer is regarded as one of the top prospects in kickboxing, having compiled an exceedingly excellent record of 33 wins and only one defeat at the age of 27. That defeat will be repeated in 2019. Semeleer had outstanding victories over Jay Overmeer, Alim Nabiev, and Superbon Bamchamek. As a result, he has risen to be named the world’s second best welterweight by the combat press, and he will be seeking to seize the number one slot with a successful defense of the Glory title.

Murthel Groenhart, his opponent, is a past champion in his own right. Groenhart is likely most remembered for his GLORY trilogy of battles with Cedric Doumbe. He would eventually finish second in the trilogy, but he is seeking to reclaim his title with a comeback to kickboxing after a break. Groenhart dabbled in MMA while away from kickboxing and has an undefeated record of 3-0 since his first fight in late 2021. However, kickboxing is his true passion, and the hard hitting former champion will be looking to make a big statement when he returns to the sport.

Murat Aygun (33-2, 8 KO) of Turkey takes on Enver Sljivar (40-6, 23 KO) of Bosnia in one of the tournament’s semi-final bouts. Jahfarr Wilnis (33-13-1, 8 KO) of Holland will fight Tariq Osaro (22-2-1, 10 KO) of Nigeria in the other semi-final. Following the title fight, the winners of these bouts will face off in the final. The winner of the tournament will face Antonio Plazibat for the interim GLORY heavyweight title at a future event, as well as a spot in the GLORY Heavyweight Grand Prix in December.

At light heavyweight, Michael Duut (44-13, 21 KO) of Holland and Mohamed Amine (28-4, 16 KO) of Morocco square off. In addition, at featherweight, Berjan Peposhi (27-2, 16 KO) of Albania takes on Jan Kaffa (18-3, 7 KO) of Holland.

In the preliminary fights, heavyweights Fabio Kwasi (45-7, 22 KO) of Holland and Nikola Filipovic (9-2, 6 KO) of Serbia square off. In addition, Cameroon’s Brice Kombou (17-3, 1 KO) and Poland’s Maksymilian Bratkowicz (11-3, 3 KO) compete for the third time. The complete lineup is listed below.

GLORY 85 premieres in Australia on Sunday, April 30.
