All about Mamba Fight Night 11
In 2011, Gill opened the Mamba Martial Arts Academy in Abbotsford, British Columbia, and he has competed in mixed martial arts and kickboxing events worldwide. Gill competed twice in front of crowds of 10,000 or more for the Asian K1 kickboxing promotion.
At MFN 6 in the Abbotsford Centre, he defeated Anthony Ruiz via submission in his retirement match. Gill had a 13-8 record in mixed martial arts when it was all said and done.
Gill has been flexing his promoter muscles over the past decade, launching the MFN events in 2014. The first edition ran at the Ag-Rec Building, with the second show at the Abbotsford Banquet Hall. While MFN 3 was held at the Ag-Rec, the fourth edition packed the Abbotsford Centre with thousands of attendees. MFN returned to the AC for its sixth installment after holding previous events in Burnaby, Coquitlam, Richmond, and Langley.
There will be more kickboxing bouts at MFN’s Surrey show. Gill said he packed the Surrey debut with several high-level bouts because kickboxing is slightly more fan-friendly and exciting than mixed martial arts.
Advanced kickboxing contest at 155 pounds between Jesse Bull and Amir Ghassemi. Bull lost against Ian Stuart at MFN 10 by unanimous decision. Kickboxer Ghassemi is 3-0 amateur and 1-0, professional.
Gill suggested seeing 115-pounders Ashley Watkins of Abbotsford and Sonia Blade of Surrey in a three-round advanced kickboxing battle. After the match was postponed, he said there were a lot of buildups and the women detest each other.
Watkins won MFN 10 by second-round knockout. Blade just won Battlefield Fight League 72 by a unanimous decision.
Other Abbotsford fighters on the card include Kulvir Khosa (fighting Gurnek Ghatarora in a three-round advanced kickboxing bout at 132 pounds), Andrew Barnbrook (fighting Michael Swierzewski at 230 pounds), and Niko Sahamis (fighting Bardia Rafsanjani at 162 pounds) (fighting Bardia Rafsanjani in a three-round novice kickboxing bout at 163 pounds).
Gill wanted MFN back in Abbotsford next year.
According to Gill, over 100 firms have ordered event tables. He expected over 1,000 attendees but indicated limited tickets will be available online or at the door in the coming days.
