With the passing of the regular Friday entry deadline, the field for the 2022 LPGA Mediheal Championship is determined. The field has been set for this tournament, which will be held at The Saticoy Club in Somis, California.

The LPGA Mediheal Championship field includes Atthaya Thitikul, Sei Young Kim, Danielle Kang, and others.

This event will feature a 120-player field and will be contested over four days, marking the LPGA’s return to California as the season comes to a close in November.

The tournament is being contested in its original slot, with the event marking a shift to California ahead of the Asian fall swing. The week-of alternate list is determined by the LPGA’s eligibility requirements.

Matilda Castren returns to defend her title this week when the LPGA MEDIHEAL Championship at The Saticoy Club takes place in Somis, California. Last year, Castren ended atop the leaderboard at -14 after a fourth-round 65 to become Finland’s first LPGA Tour winner.

AT THE LPGA MEDIHEAL CHAMPIONSHIP, THERE ARE THREE TO WATCH.

A lot is at stake when the LPGA Tour takes on a new location an hour north of Los Angeles. With only two full-field events remaining in the season, some players are competing in the LPGA MEDIHEAL Championship in order to maintain their cards for 2023. Others are attempting to finish in the top 60 of the CME points standings in order to qualify for the season-ending CME Group Tour Championship. Only a few are competing for year-end hardware and a spot in history.

One of the top threesomes to witness at The Saticoy Club on Thursday and Friday has a little bit of everything. This group consists of:

• AYAKA FURUE

This 22-year-old Japanese rookie couldn’t have asked for a better first season. After a string of missed cuts, she arrived in Las Vegas for the Bank of Hope LPGA Match Play presented by MGM Resorts in May with no match-play experience. In five days, she learned a lot while playing herself into the title match against Korea’s Eun-Hee Ji. Despite losing that Sunday, Furue, who has seven victories on the Japan LPGA, learnt a lot from the experience.

Furue demonstrated this in July, when she won the Trust Golf Women’s Scottish Open after finishing in the top 20 at the Amundi Evian Championship. Her strong play has continued, as she finished third in the Amazing Cre Portlant Classic and hasn’t finished outside of the top 20 on a leaderboard in almost a month.

• THITIKUL, ATTHAYA

Anyone who saw the youthful Atthaya Thitikul win four times on the LET and win the Race to Costa del Sol title last year will tell you that the adolescent is the biggest phenomenon in the game since Lydia Ko. The 19-year-old Thai has won twice on the LPGA Tour, has nine more top-10 performances, and has risen to No. 2 in the Rolex Rankings.

Thitikul is attempting to become the first golfer in history to win both the Rolex Louise Suggs Rookie of the Year and the Rolex LPGA Player of the Year in the same season.

• LEE, ALISON

Alison Lee, 27, is the senior member of this trio, and she is returning home to Southern California for the week. Lee, a UCLA graduate who joined the LPGA Tour in 2015, has yet to win a tournament, but she has been knocking on the door frequently in 2022. She has three top-10 and five top-15 finishes this year and is on the verge of re-entering the Rolex Rankings top 50. It’s been a long path for Lee, who has been upfront about her depressive difficulties and acquired a lot of new followers as a result. Everyone who follows the women’s game wishes her luck.
