Top 2023 Players Championship predictions

One significant shock the model predicts for the Players Championship in 2023 is that one of the top contenders, Scottie Scheffler, who has won five times on the PGA Tour, stumbles this week and barely makes the top five. In each of his last seven PGA Tour appearances, Scheffler has recorded a T-12 or better result. In February, he won the WM Phoenix Open for the fifth time in his professional career.

Scheffler, on the other hand, has had a terrible time at the Players Championship throughout his career, placing T-55 or lower in each of his most recent two appearances at TPC Sawgrass. Additionally, he joins the competition this week ranked 75th or worse in terms of one-putt percentage (39.93%), strokes gained: putting (0.14), and total putting (203.3). He is not a strong favourite to win the Players Championship in 2023, and there are many superior values in the field.

Another surprise: 36-1 longshot Jason Day mounts a serious challenge for the championship. The day is a target for anyone looking for a sizable payday because he has a much better shot of winning it all than his odds suggest. The Australian, 35, has won 12 times on the PGA Tour and has four top-10 results in his last four starts, which have him on the verge of snapping a winless streak of almost five years.

Day, who is currently ranked No. 43 in the OWR and 20th in the FedEx Cup standings, has been one of the greatest players on the PGA Tour this season from tee to green. Day has the sixth-most strokes gained on the circuit. (1.944). Additionally, he ranks in the top 60 in each of the four main strokes-gained categories, including 27th off the tee, 25th in approach, and 14th in putting (all. (.467). In 2018 and 2019, the champion of the Players Championship from 2016 finished in the top 10 at TPC Sawgrass.
