Six Days of Berlin is an annual track cycling competition in Berlin, Germany, as part of the Six Days Series. The new format tournament comprises three days of track cycling on consecutive days.
These three days of action are truly spectacular, with 16 teams of two consisting of 32 of the world’s top riders, including World, Olympic, and European Champions, competing in 5 disciplines, including elimination races, time trials, Madisons, and more. As the race begins, a DJ mixes music with an incredible light show to create a party atmosphere for an event unlike any other.
The Six Days of Berlin is a six-day track cycling race held annually in Berlin, Germany. The inaugural tournament was held in 1909. In the first event, 15 teams of two cyclists battled for glory and 5000 Goldmarks in the exhibition hall at Berlin Zoo. With nine victories, Klaus Bugdahl owns the record. The 6-day marathon is sometimes staged right in the middle of the football season; the winter is harsh, and the German football league has a rather long winter break. Bundesliga was previously suspended from mid-December until mid-February.
As a result, 6-day races were considered big entertainment events at the time (handball was to some extent). The Berlin 6-day race, which celebrated its 100th race at the 2011 competition, continues to draw a big crowd, and it used to be staged twice a season. Six Days of Dortmund, Stuttgart, and Munich all disbanded due to the race format’s fall in popularity and the global financial crisis in 2009. Six Days of Bremen is another surviving 6-day cycling event in Germany. To revitalize the race format, 6 Days of Berlin was added to the Six Day Series in 2017.
