UFC 278: Usman vs Edwards 2 – Preview, Predictions, and Betting Odds

UFC 27 is set to take place on Saturday, August 20, 2022. The event will be headlined by a welterweight bout between Kamaru Usman and Leon Edwards. This article will preview the fight, give our predictions, and list the best betting odds for the match.

UFC 278: Usman vs. Edwards is an upcoming mixed martial arts event produced by the Ultimate Fighting Championship that will be held on August 20, 2022, at the Vivint Arena in Salt Lake City, Utah.

The event will be headlined by a welterweight bout between Kamaru Usman and Leon Edwards.

This will be the first UFC event in Miami since UFC on FOX 11 in April 2014.

In the co-main event, former interim UFC Lightweight Champion Anthony Pettis will face off against Charles Oliveira in a featherweight bout.

Pettis is coming off a loss to Eddie Alvarez at UFC Fight Night 81 back in January, while Oliveira most recently defeated Myles Jury at UFC on FOX 17 in December.

Rounding out the main card is a women’s strawweight bout between Tecia Torres and Bec Rawlings and a welterweight bout between Alex Oliveira and Tim Means.

Torres is coming off a loss to Rose Namajunas at The Ultimate Fighter: A Champion Will Be Crowned Finale in December, while Rawlings most recently defeated Lisa Ellis at UFC Fight Night 85 in March.

Oliveira is coming off a loss to Piotr Hallmann at UFC Fight Night 67 in May, while Means most recently defeated John Howard at UFC 189 in July.

The main card will air live on pay-per-view, with the prelims airing on FOX Sports 1 and UFC Fight Pass.

Kamaru Usman (10-1) vs. Leon Edwards (13-3)

This will be a rematch of their first bout, which took place in November 2014 at UFC Fight Night 57, with Usman winning unanimously.

Usman is coming off of a loss to Warlley Alves at UFC 194 in December. Before that, he had won nine straight fights, including eight in the UFC.

Edwards is coming off a loss to Albert Tumenov at UFC on FOX 14 in January. Before that, he had won four straight fights, all by stoppage.

Anthony Pettis (18-5) vs. Charles Oliveira (21-6, 1 NC)

Pettis is a former UFC Lightweight Champion, but he has struggled as of late, going 2-3 in his last five fights. He is coming off of a loss to Eddie Alvarez at UFC Fight Night 81 in January.

Oliveira is one of the most talented fighters in the UFC, but he has also been inconsistent. In December, he is coming off a win over Myles Jury at UFC on FOX 17.

Our Prediction: Oliveira wins via submission in the second round

Best Betting Odds: Pettis (+175), Oliveira (-205)

Tecia Torres (8-1) vs. Bec Rawlings (7-4)

Torres is one of the top female strawweight in the UFC. She is coming off a loss to Rose Namajunas at The Ultimate Fighter: A Champion Will Be Crowned Finale in December.

Rawlings is a former Flyweight fighter who has struggled since moving up to strawweight. She is coming off a win over Lisa Ellis at UFC Fight Night 85 in March.

Our Prediction: Torres wins via unanimous decision

Alex Oliveira (13-3-1, 1 NC) vs. Tim Means (25-7-1)

Oliveira is a former lightweight fighter who has struggled since moving to welterweight. He is coming from a loss to Piotr Hallmann at UFC Fight Night 67 in May.

Means is a sports veteran with alternated wins and losses in his last eight fights. In July, he is coming off a win over John Howard at UFC 189.

Hall is a former Ultimate Fighter contestant who has also struggled in the UFC, going 3-5 in his eight fights. He is coming off a loss to Derek Brunson at UFC Fight Night 94 in September.

Smith is a sports veteran who has also alternated wins and losses in his last four fights. In February, he is coming off of a win over Vinny Magalhaes at UFC Fight Night 82.
