Saul Canelo Alvarez and Gennadiy GGG Golovkin 3 are set to face off in the ring for a third time on September 17 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. This highly anticipated rematch has been dubbed “The Fight of the Century” and has boxing fans on the edge of their seats.
Alvarez and Golovkin first met in September of 2017, with the fight ending in a controversial split decision draw. Many felt that Golovkin had done enough to win the fight, and so the stage was set for a rematch one year later. The second fight took place on May 5, 2018, and once again ended in a controversial decision, this time with Alvarez being awarded a majority decision victory.

After 12 awful rounds against a sluggish Julio Cesar Chavez Jr., a 120-108 shutout on all three judges’ scorecards, 20,501 fans had had enough of platitudes and excuses.
“I showed I could move, box, and do everything,” Canelo declared after the bout, to a mix of cheers and boos, a little trickle of perspiration the only indication he had been in a prizefight. “Against a bigger, stronger fighter, I can do all of those things.”
Their rivalry has been one of the best in contemporary boxing history, but fans have had to wait for a third and final fight. They will now go toe-to-toe under the lights in Sin City, and it should be a thriller.
Canelo, who lost his WBA light heavyweight title fight to Dmitry Bivol in May, will defend his super middleweight crowns.
Golovkin has only fought four fights since his loss to the Mexican, most recently defeating Ryota Murata in Japan.
It was a fair evaluation in several aspects. Alvarez (49-1-1, 34 KOs) had spent the previous 47 minutes smashing his opponent’s face with a detached professional perfection that cemented his place among the greats.
