Lewis Ritson vs Ohara Davies Preview
WBA No. 2 Ohara Davies takes on No. 4 Lewis Ritson for a chance to fight WBA Super-Lightweight Champion Alberto Puello. (21-0, 10KO). The winner of Ritson-Davies will be next in position to fight the winner of the Dominican titleholder’s defence against Rolando Romero in May.
Both fighters have nearly identical records, with Ritson of Forest Hall and Davies of London being separated by a single victory. One more thing they have in common is that they both won their bouts against Miguel Vazquez via decision, even though many fans believed the Mexican should have won.
Following his loss to Jack Catterall on points after 12 rounds more than four years ago, Davies of Hackney has won his last six bouts. His reputation was restored to its former heights after his victory in the MTK Golden Contract competition. After losing to the hard-hitting Jeremias Ponce in 2021, Ritson won twice in three months between December 2021 and March 2022 but hasn’t competed in almost a year.
It’s a matchup that’s as close as it gets on the home front, and it merits more attention than it’s gotten so far.
Lewis Ritson vs Ohara Davies Fight Cards Preview
On March 4 at the 9,000-capacity Utilita Arena in Newcastle, England, crowd favorite Lewis Ritson (23-2, 13 KOs) will square off against the controversial Ohara Davies (24-2, 17 KOs) from London. There has been no word on television coverage, but an estimated 4,000 fans are anticipated to show up.
WBA final qualifier at Featherweight between undefeated British boxer Thomas Patrick Ward (33-0-1, 5 KOs) and Uzbekestani Otabek Kholmatov (10-0, 9 KOs), fighting out of the United States.
Ward and Kholmatov are ranked first and second, respectively, in the world championship division for recently crowned champion Mauricio Lara. Matchroom, who represents Lara, is attempting to set up a rematch with Leigh Wood or a trilogy with Josh Warrington for the Mexican, but the victor of Ward vs. Khomatov could derail those plans.

Whoever wins between Wood and Lara will be expected to defend against whoever wins between Ward and Khomatov.
The Uzbek has only been competing professionally for a total of 15 months, but he already has ten competitive bouts under his belt. There were nine fights for Kholmatov in the last five months of 2021, and there was only one for him in 2022, a 12-round decision victory over 14-0 Andranik Grigorian.
Despite being undefeated in 34 fights as a professional and having beaten the IBO champion Jazza Dickens, Ward has yet to compete for a world championship. Probellum’s client Ward will be fighting an inexperienced professional in Kholmatov in an effort to finally win a world championship.
Lee McGregor (11-0-1, 9 KOs), a former European, Commonwealth, and British Bantamweight champion, will return to the ring for the first time since his controversial and disheartening tie with Diego Alberto Ruiz of Argentina in February 2022. In his next bout, the Scotsman will be facing Alexis Boureima Kabore (29-7-0, 8 KOs) of Burkina Faso at Super Bantamweight.
It’s the return of undefeated fighters Steven Cairns (4-0), Ben Rees (0-0-1), Nathan Forrest (2-0), Ewan Mackenzie (6-0), and Adam Cope (6-0), and the professional debuts of Callum Walton and Syed Shear.
