Joseph Adorno vs Hugo Alberto Roldan Fight Preview:

Shinard Bunch, who had been scheduled to face Roldan (21-0-1, 7 KOs) in the main event, was forced to withdraw due to personal circumstances. Adorno (16-1-2, 14 KOs), who holds two early victories against current unified super featherweight champion Shakur Stevenson in the amateur ranks, will compete for the fourth time this year and third straight time at super lightweight after having fought primarily at lightweight throughout his career.
GH3 Promotions, headed by Vito Mielnicki, handles Adorno’s management and stated, “It couldn’t have happened at a better time in my career to fight on SHOBOX®.” “After increasing my weight to 140 pounds, I’ve never felt stronger, and I’m anxious to demonstrate my strength in front of the whole country. Three weeks have not even passed since my last fight, so I’m in terrific shape, and I’m anticipating another spectacular knockout against Roldan, who has never faced anyone with my power and lineage.”

The SHOEBOX co-main event is a 10-round featherweight bout between unbeaten Filipino prospect Bernard Angelo Torres (16-0, 7 KOs) and once-beaten Dominican Frency Fortunato (13-1, 10 KOs). Janelson Bocachica (17-0-1, 11 KOs) faces knockout artist Roiman Villa (24-1, 24 KOs) in an eight-round welterweight bout to kick off the show.

In his debut at super lightweight, Adorno, 23, knocked out Juan Santiago in the first round in May and Roberto Almazan Monreal in the second round in July. In April 2021, he displayed his strength by twice knocking out unbeaten Jamaine Ortiz en route to a contentious majority tie. Adorno will spar with Mielnicki’s son, junior middleweight prospect Vito Jr., in preparation for his bout against Roldan, who is making his U.S. debut.
“This will be Joey’s coming out party, where he demonstrates that he is one of the sport’s greatest punchers and abilities,” Mielnicki Sr. stated. “Joey will demonstrate that he is superior to Roldan. He is motivated and at a wonderful point in his career, and on September 9 he will throw everything into the ring.”

Adorno, who fought and was born in Union City, New Jersey, returns to SHOWTIME after suffering his first setback against unbeaten lightweight contender Michel Rivera via a 10-round decision in the SHOWTIME CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING broadcast opening on March 26. Adorno turned professional in 2016 at the age of 17, following a 178-22 amateur record.
Sampson Boxing is the event promoter.

On September 9, Hall of Famer Barry Tompkins will provide ringside commentary alongside former world champion Raul Marquez, veteran combat sports writer and MORNING KOMBAT host Brian Campbell, while Hall of Famer Steve Farhood will perform unofficial scoring remotely.
Gordon Hall is the executive producer of SHOEBOX: The New Generation, while Chuck McKean is the producer and Rick Phillips is the director.
