Amanda Serrano vs Danila Ramos Preview:
On October 27, the undisputed featherweight champion Amanda Serrano will face Danila Ramos in the first 12-round boxing match in almost 15 years. The bout takes place at the Caribe Royale Orlando in Florida and will be broadcast globally on DAZN.
Serrano, a seven-weight world champion, fell to Katie Taylor in a historic fight at Madison Square Garden in 2022, but has since won three consecutive fights. The Puerto Rican fighter overcame Erika Cruz to become the first female undisputed champion in boxing history, and she now wants to compete on an even playing field with male boxers.
Amanda Serrano leads the battle for change when she defends her featherweight title against Danila Ramos on October 27 at the Caribe Royale Orlando in Florida. The fight, which will be broadcast on DAZN, is the first time since 2007 that a women’s professional boxing contest has been planned for 12 three-minute rounds.
Serrano (45-2-1) is a women’s tennis icon, having won a record seven world titles in seven different weight classes. While the WBC title of the undisputed featherweight champion will not be at stake due to the regulatory body’s opposition to three-minute rounds for women in boxing, Serrano refuses to let politics overshadow what is a historic moment.
“For me personally, I don’t want to go back to two minutes,” Serrano told Sky Sports. “It makes no sense to go backwards, so hopefully other women are on board, they love the idea, they’ve been asking for it for many years now, and hopefully, this is the first step.”
Ramos (12-2-) has met Elhem Mekhaled and Katharina Thanderz, both of whom she has lost to. To earn a crack at gold, the top contender for Serrano’s WBO belt defeated past multi-time title contender Brenda Karen Carabajal.
“In MMA, female boxers compete in 5-minute rounds, just like their male counterparts.” Women and men participate under the same rules in bare-knuckle boxing. “On Friday, October 27, Danila and I are proud to make history and compete under the same rules as male boxers,” Serrano said in a statement.
“This is a fight for equal treatment of women everywhere.” Thank you to the Florida Athletic Commission, the sanctioning organisations WBO, WBA, IBF, Boxlab Promotions, and, of course, Jordan Maldonado and my wonderful crew at Most Valuable Promotions.”
It should be emphasised that Srrano’s WBC title will not be at stake because the organisation refused to approve a female match with 12 three-minute rounds.
Ramos turned pro in 2017 and has fought for interim super featherweight title against Elhem Mekhaled and Katharina Thanderz. On a four-fight winning streak, she outpointed Brenda Karen Carabajal in August to become the WBO featherweight title’s top contender.
Aside from the main event, several young guns battle for a spot on the most recent Most Valuable Prospects card. Here is a list of all the fighters competing in Serrano vs. Ramos.
