Haney turned professional at the age of 17 after winning seven National titles. Haney won the WBC Youth lightweight championship in 2017 while fighting largely in Mexico. When the two battled in June at Melbourne’s Marvel Stadium, the 23-year-old Haney (28-0, 15 KOs) convincingly outpointed the native Australian to capture all four recognized world titles at 135 pounds. To set up this weekend’s second serving, Kambosos (20-1, 10 KOs) exercised his contractually mandated automatic rematch, which was moved adjacent to the much smaller Rod Laver Arena.
With Haney positioned as an 8-1 betting favourite to repeat his victory against the 29-year-old Kambosos, who was anything but his “Ferocious” nickname inside the ring four months ago, the outcome of the rematch has seemed predetermined. Nonetheless, this is the same Kambosos who rose from the canvas to outpoint Teofimo Lopez Jr. last year in one of boxing’s most shocking upsets in recent memory.
“I think it’ll be a different battle, and he’ll be much more aggressive, which will lead to other openings,” Haney said last week on “Morning Kombat.” “It will result in a better performance from me because he will give me more than he did in the first battle.”
George Kambosos Jr. inquired, and he will be granted his chance at redemption. On October 15 (October 16 in Australia), Devin Haney defends the WBA (Super), WBC, IBF, WBO, and The Ring lightweight belts against the former champion in Kambosos.
The bout will take place inside Melbourne’s Rod Laver Arena. The most recent meeting between the two took place in Marvel Stadium.

The victory for Haney in their first battle earned the Las Vegas product, dubbed “The Dream,” the essential pound-for-pound recognition that his title reign had lacked up to this point. Haney relied on his impeccable timing and technique to keep Kambosos at bay.
What didn’t happen in their first meeting were the pyrotechnics Kambosos had predicted after a testy build between the two fighters. Some chastised Kambosos for relying too heavily on the rematch clause and avoiding putting himself in danger of being stopped.
In any case, the two fighters were friendly during Wednesday’s “Face Off,” which aired on Fox Sports Australia.
“After the battle, I shook his hand and congratulated him like a true champ,” Kambosos remarked. “‘Thank you for the opportunity, and I hope to see you again,’ he added.” So I believe all of the tension [before to the first bout] has subsided. It’s just two champions going at it again.

Devin Haney vs. George Kambosos Jr. 2 Prediction:
It’s unclear whether Kambosos refused to risk it all during their first meeting in order to keep the rematch necessary. But it’s evident that he’ll need to be a more aggressive fighter if he wants to make up for the speed and technique disadvantages he has.
The issue with Kambosos trying to damage Haney, or at least pull him into a firefight like he did against Lopez, was that Lopez embraced that sort of fight due to the minor tear in his esophagus that affected his respiration. The fact that Lopez eventually went the distance and rallied to beat Kambosos and nearly beat him on the scorecards doesn’t bode well for his chances against Haney.
Worse, the more reckless Kambosos becomes, the more likely he will fall victim to Haney’s expertly built labyrinth of stiff counter shots. Changing his strategy to an all-out effort on the physique may help Kambosos slow down Haney. Even so, he is vulnerable to being surgically dissected.
At the very least, expect Kambosos to pick up the pace. However, unless he is willing to risk everything to land that one huge shot that could change the momentum, the two combatants are simply too far apart in terms of skill.
