Cris Cyborg vs Simone Silva Preview:

Cyborg, a two-time World Jiu-Jitsu Championship gold medalist, debuted in professional MMA in 2005. Cyborg has won featherweight titles in Strikeforce, Invicta FC, the UFC, and Bellator, among others. She is currently on a six-fight winning streak after winning the Bellator featherweight title against Julia Budd in 2020.

Cyborg, the incumbent Bellator MMA featherweight champion, most recently defended her title for the fourth time in April, with a unanimous decision victory against Arlene Blencowe. She has also competed for Strikeforce and Invicta FC. After losing her UFC title to Amanda Nunes in 2018, the knockout artist is currently on a six-fight winning streak.

Cyborg (26-2, 1 NC) has previously stated her want to test her boxing skills while continuing to compete in MMA. She has stated that entering a boxing ring is “one of my fantasies.”

Silva, an experienced fighter with a 17-21 record and six knockouts, will battle the 37-year-old. She is, however, on an eight-fight losing streak dating back to 2019.

While Cyborg is ready to begin boxing, it is unknown who will be her next MMA opponent. In Bellator, there is no obvious No. 1 contender at featherweight. There has been talking that the PFL will pursue an agreement with Cyborg in order to pit her against two-time Olympic judo gold medalist Kayla Harrison, but Cyborg has stated that she has had no contact with the organization.

Cyborg has successfully defended her Bellator belt four times. Her most recent fight was an April unanimous decision victory against Arlene Blencowe. She’s been waiting for her chance to join a boxing ring for a long time.

“Everyone has to do something extremely unpleasant,” Cyborg told The Wrestling Observer. “You can’t just sit on the bed or the couch and fantasize about having a dream. You must go, you must obtain….your dream.”

Silva (17-21) debuted professionally in 2013. She is an MMA and boxing champion who has lost eight boxing matches in a run (11 total losses in a row), including one against Amanda Serrano. Silva was knocked out in her last fight in August against Jessica Camara. Following that battle, the Texas Combative Sports Program granted her a 60-day medical suspension. When it was reported that Silva would fight in Brazil during his 60-day suspension, the commission issued a statement.

“Some countries honor TDLR and ABC medical suspensions, while others do not,” according to the statement. “The safety of the fighters is our top priority, and if Da Silva returns to Texas for a bout, we will almost certainly require her to undergo EEG and EKG testing to guarantee she can participate safely.”
