Chris Billam Smith vs Armend Xhoxhaj Preview
On December 17, Chris Billam-Smith will return to Bournemouth to face Armend Xhoxhaj as the main event of a Boxxer show that will be broadcast on Sky Sports. On the undercard, Dan Azeez will fight Rocky Fielding, and there will be further bouts as well.
Billam-Smith, who has a record of 16-1 with 11 knockouts, competed in his most recent fight on July 30 in Bournemouth, where he defeated Isaac Chamberlain through decision after 12 rounds. The atmosphere was electric, and it was very evident that the boxer, promoter Ben-Shalom, and Sky would all be interested in returning in the near or far future.
Even though the 32-year-old “Gentleman” still holds the Commonwealth cruiserweight belt, it won’t be on the line when he fights the 28-year-old Xhoxhaj (14-2, 7 KO), who is originally from Kosovo but currently resides in Germany. The European cruiserweight title was recently vacated by the “Gentleman.” Since suffering a knockout defeat at the hands of Mateusz Masternak in the fourth round a little over a year ago, he has won two bouts in a row.
Billam-Smith will aim to make larger advances in 2023, and this fight isn’t exactly the biggest or greatest fight on paper, but it’s another home outing that gets him another fight before the year turns over. Billam-Smith will fight at home again before the year turns over.
On paper, the fight between Azeez (17-0, 11 KO) and Fielding, in which Azeez will be defending his British light heavyweight championship, is the more enticing battle (30-2, 18 KO). In September, Azeez, who is 33 years old, won the belt that had previously been held by Shakan Pitters. Meanwhile, Fielding, who is 35 years old, is returning to the level at which he is arguably at his best at this point in his career. Since his beating at the hands of Canelo Alvarez in late 2018, he has won three consecutive fights, although none of the victories has been particularly noteworthy.
