Agit Kabayel vs Agron Smakici Heavyweights fight will take place this Saturday 04 March 2023. At the Ruhr Congress in Bochum, Germany, on March 04, 2023, former champion Agit Kabayel and previously defeated Agron Smakici will square off for the vacant European heavyweight championship.

Since Joe Joyce’s 10-round victory over fellow countryman Daniel Dubois in November 2020—after which he was stripped of the title for failing to make any further defences—the championship has been vacant.

Plans to replace the vacancy have since been complicated by pull-outs and injuries. Kabayel had most recently been scheduled to play Peter Kadiru. However, what was meant to be a warm-up battle turned into a main event when Kadiru was shockingly knocked out in the first round by Argentine journeyman Marcos Antonio Ahumada.

Smakici (19-1, 17 KOs) was chosen at that point to take on Kabayel (22-0, 14 KOs) in early 2023.

Agit Kabayel vs Agron Smakici Fight Preview:

Agit Kabayel and Agron Smakici will square off on March 04 at the RuhrCongress-Halle in Bochum, Germany, as part of an SES promotion, for the vacant EBU championship.

Thus, Kabayel, who is from Bochum, will have the benefit of playing against Smakici, who is from Croatia but has intermittently resided in Germany.

Since defeating Derek Chisora in 2017, Kabayel (whose SES record of 22-0 means they do not include the fights in the Bigger is a Better tournament, as does BoxRec) has fought once every year. At one time, Top Rank was supposed to sign Kabayel, but that never happened.

Despite being supported by the “new” Universum, Smakici (19-1) was mercilessly eliminated by Zhan Kossobutskyi in the first round of 2019. Since then, he has won four consecutive close combat matches. He can punch, but the real question is whether he can endure it.

After Kirstie Bavington of Wolverhampton recently successfully defended her European Boxing Union (EBU) Welterweight Title against Germany’s Naomi Mannes, Dennis Hobson is preparing Kirstie for a world title run.

On November 19, live on Fightzone from the Rotherham Magna Centre, Bavington engaged in one of her thrilling signature fights and defeated the previously undefeated Mannes by unanimous decision.

With a current record of 7-2-2 (2), including a standout triumph over highly regarded April Hunter, “Bavvo” is on a four-fight winning streak, and Hobson thinks the 30-year-old can emulate Hannah Rankin, another fighter from the Fight Academy.

Having previously guided the likes of Ricky Hatton, Clinton Woods and Jamie McDonnell to the pinnacle of the sport, as well as helping Rankin to become a double and two-time world champion – Hobson is a master at manouvering fighters into life-changing opportunities and sees Kirstie as a future star.

“I do believe we can work with Kirstie in a manner akin to how we worked with Hannah. Kirstie can profit from the excellent model we have for how we led Hannah to success.

“We can do the same with Kirstie, but Hannah will, I think, become a world champion once more [after losing her titles to Terri Harper in September]. She is interesting and fun to observe for the fans. The best part about her is that she craves it so intensely that she doesn’t hesitate to speak up when the kitchen temperature rises.

“I like Kirstie and her attitude; she enters the arena with it every time. I’ve become a convert to the sport of women’s boxing thanks to how rapidly it has advanced. I enjoy watching women box, and our stable of female competitors includes Katie Healy, one of the best.

“I’m pleased with how our reorganization at Fight Academy and Fightzone is going. We’ve let go of a few individuals, welcomed back a few, and will continue to provide chances for fighters who value what we do for them.
