LAS VEGAS (AP) — A’ja Wilson, Chelsea Gray, and Kelsey Plum delivered all of the offence Las Vegas required to lift the Aces one win away from their first WNBA championship.

Wilson had 26 points and 10 rebounds to lead Las Vegas to an 85-71 win over the Connecticut Sun in Game 2 of the WNBA Finals on Tuesday night.

The Aces were 0-6 in the Finals before winning the series’ first two games against Connecticut. Las Vegas, which was swept in the final in 2008 when the team was still in San Antonio and again in 2020, will seek to clinch the title on Thursday night in Connecticut.

“It’s going to take everything,” Gray said, who finished with 21 points. “You can see the metrics, but the tenacity, the little things that will get it done.” This year, we’ve done well on the road. So let’s go win on the road.”

Plum scored 20 points after a dismal Game 1 performance.

“Before the game, A’ja cursed me out. “All I needed was that,” Plum remarked. “It’s about time I came to the celebration.” They kept us going all week. It’s great to get some shots in, but there’s one more.”

Following a season-low 67 points in Game 1, the Aces recovered their offensive brilliance, hitting 33 of 64 (51.6%) shots from the floor.

Connecticut finished 27 of 64 (42.2%) from the field, led by Courtney Williams (18 points).

Alyssa Thomas had 13 points, and Jonquel Jones had 16 points and 11 rebounds.

Both teams pushed the tempo early, trading buckets to a 10-10 draw before the Aces seized momentum and launched an 11-4 run to open a seven-point lead. In the first quarter, Las Vegas shot 55% (10 of 18) from the floor, while the Sunshot 35% (7 of 20).

The Aces kept up the offensive assault in the second quarter, paced by Plum’s 11 points.

“I believe Kelsey’s drives helped us,” Hammon said. “I mean, we got three excellent glances the other day.” We didn’t want to demolish them, but you have to trust the worm would ultimately turn there. The main thing is that we’ll get some excellent looks once she’s in there.”

Connecticut was trailing by 14 points when coach Curt Miller went large with his team, and the Sun answered with a 12-4 run to narrow the gap to six points before Wilson’s bucket gave the Aces a 45-37 halftime advantage.

“Get to my spots, my teammates are putting me in positions where I feel comfortable,” Wilson, who hit 10 of 13 shots, said.

The Aces’ offensive balance continued into the third half, as five different scorers helped the Aces extend their advantage to 14, outscoring Connecticut 23-17 and taking a 68-54 lead into the fourth session.

“We felt like we were playing catch-up the entire night because we couldn’t string together consecutive stops,” Miller explained. “We were attempting to keep this high-powered attack out of rhythm, and we struggled tonight.”

EFFICIENCY OF PAINTING WNBA Finals Game 3

So far this season, Connecticut is 3-0 in postseason elimination games.

“We’re taking it game by game,” Jones remarked. “We can only do so much.” We’re going back home, we’ll have our fans, who have been with us all season, behind us, and we’ll use that to propel us to victory, and that’s all we can do.”
