Is it already time to leave once more? After last year’s World Triathlon Championship Series’ dramatic final day, the excitement is about to return this weekend (3–4 March) in Abu Dhabi with the first event of the 2023 season.
Before the series finale in September in Pontevedra, Spain, there will be six separate races. The points athletes earn throughout the year will contribute toward the 2023 world title as well as qualification for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.

Triathletes to follow in the 2023 World Triathlon Championship Series
Leo Bergere of France and Flora Duffy of Bermuda, the current Olympic champions, are preparing to defend the series championships they won last year.
But it won’t be simple to win the title in 2023.
Alex Yee, one of the best triathletes in Britain, has already directly threatened Bergere. Yee, who is only 25 years old, has a lot of successful experience. At the Olympic Games in Tokyo in 2020, he won the mixed relay and the solo silver medals in 2021. In 2022, he finished second in the World Series. After finishing second to France (who had already qualified for Paris 2024 as the Olympic hosts) in the Mixed Relay World Championship in Montreal last year, he was also a member of the British squad that made it to the Paris 2024 mixed relay competition.
Georgia Taylor-Brown is another Brit who ran for the relay squad that earned a spot in Paris 2024. Taylor-Brown, the current Olympic mixed relay champion and individual silver medalist, will try to improve upon her second-place finish in the 2022 World Series, where she came up short in the season’s final event.
Other athletes to keep an eye on this year include Bergere’s fellow countryman Vincent Luis, a two-time World Series winner, and Norway’s men’s individual Olympic champion Kristian Blummenfelt.
Watch out for Gwen Jorgensen, the USA’s Rio 2016 Olympic champion, and Katie Zaferes, a fellow countrywoman who earned bronze at Tokyo 2020.
